The southern costa blanca is situated in the South East of Spain. From Alicante in the North it follows the coast to Elche,Guardamar,Torrevieja down to Campoverde in the South. The Southern Costa Blanca boasts some of the best coastline in Spain with numerous blue flagged beaches and the beach in Guardamar alone covers some 10 miles. The area is well served by the international airport of Alicante but can also be reached from the airport of Murcia. The road network is second to none with motorways connecting all the major towns and cities of the region. The capital of the region, Alicante is famous for staging some of the best boat races including the Volvo Round The World Race and also has a lot of culture and attractions. The city of Elche is famous for the manufacture of shoes and also for its Palm Trees and Palm Gardens. The town of Guardamar is a favourite of both the Spanish and British alike due to the fantastic beach and the restaurants which dominate the sea front and specialize in fish dishes. The town of Torrevieja is another favourite of the British and many ex pats have made this there permanent home or have a holiday home here. Torrevieja is well served with a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. It also has a lovely promenade and an international marina. Torrevieja is also very popular with the Spanish and a lot of people from the big cities (Barcelona. Madrid etc) like to holiday here to take advantage of the beaches and the facilities. |
