The Region of Murcia is situated in the South East corner of Spain. From Yecla in the North to Aguilas in the South .It borders the Southern Costa Blanca and covers the town of Caravaca in the west to La Manga in the East. The famous Costa Calida (Warm Coast) forms part of the region of Murcia and stretches some 165 miles. Here you will find many blue flagged beaches on the Mediterranean sea and also where the Mar Menor (Small sea) is situated. The Mar Menor is the largest natural lagoon in the world. Here the water temperature is always 5º warmer than the Mediterranean due to the fact that it is so shallow with the deepest part being only 6 meters. The region is served by the airport of Murcia San Javier situated on the coast of the Mar Menor and will also be served by the new international airport which is being constructed in Corvera and due to open in a couple of years. Inland from the coast there is the city of Murcia itself. There you will find many attractions, both historic and commercial. The city is dominated by the Cathedral and its tower which is a big tourist draw. There are many historic buildings within the city including 23 churches and the spectacular university. Commercially Murcia has expanded tenfold in the last few years with two large commercial centres opening, one of which includes Ikea, and another in the process of opening. Inland again from Murcia there are many beautiful valleys such as the Ricote valley and spectacular mountain ranges where you can spend many hours enjoying the nature. The region has one of the best all year round climates with hot summers and pleasant winters and does not suffer the extremes of heat and cold like Madrid and Barcelona. This makes the Region an ideal place to play golf all year round |
